Pilot test data show that SBIRTTraining improved clinical skills, especially in providing brief interventions for substance use problems for both physicians and nurse practitioners taking the program. Thirty-four physicians and fourteen nurse practitioners took the training and pre- and post-training assessments. In addition to significant improvement in clinical skills, physicians also improved significantly in knowledge about SIBRT training and both groups had improvements in specific attitudes with respect to their roles in SBIRT training or its effectiveness. The controlled summative evaluation is ongoing and more data will be reported shortly.
