Online Skills Training for PCPs on Substance Abuse, National Institute on Drug Abuse #HHSN271200800038C
Thank you for your interest. At this time, we are no longer recruiting. This arm of the research is completed. You are welcome to take the SBIRTTraining by accessing it through the home page of this website. It is currently free of charge (as of 7/28/11).
We are happy to invite you to participate in a study evaluating the above training program, if you meet eligibility requirements. Training is in screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) skills related to substance abuse. Eligibility requirements are that you must be a primary care nurse practitioner or physician assistant, currently practicing, and a resident of the U.S. who has not completed a research study with Clinical Tools in the past 6 months. This study ends on July 31, 2011.
WHAT: Assessments of knowledge, interpersonal skills, attitude, and clinical skills before and after completing an online training program to develop SBIRT skills. The clinical skills assessment is based on a practice session in which you would choose either to interview a standardized patient actor via online chat or to review the transcript of a patient-doctor dialogue and answer multiple choice questions. The entire study is completed online at your convenience.
STUDY DESIGN: You may be randomly assigned to either an intervention or control group. The groups will receive the same training and number of assessments.
TIME: The study period is 3 to 5-weeks and total time involvement is between 5 and 7 hours.
Benefits: The primary benefit is receipt of interactive training in SBIRT for primary care providers. All enrolled participants can choose to receive an honorarium of $30 upon completion of the first assessment, $30 for the second assessment following completion of the training (or control wait period), and $30 for completion of the follow-up assessment (or completion of post-assessment for control group). Hence, all participants have the opportunity to receive a total of $90. Intervention group participants receive payment for the first assessment only after completion of the second assessment. Control group participants receive all payment after completion of the final assessment. AMA PRA Category 1 Credits are also available for completing the program.
Risks: There are no known risks to participation in this study. Participants can elect to stop participation at any time without prejudice.
We appreciate your willingness to help with this project and look forward to your participation. Please let us know if you have any questions. To enroll, please read and [digitally] sign the statement below.
Sincerely
